Ever wondered how you too can start a blog with little to no technical skills? Or better still, with no capital (maybe just $5 or less for your domain). Don’t worry we will get into that as I have made it very easy and straight forward with my long hours of work to make this very simple for you to Set Up Your First Blog Like A Pro.
In this guide, we will be making use of blogger.com but in a more advanced way.
Let’s delve into it!
- A Gmail Account
- A Smartphone or Laptop (Both will be better)
- Internet Connection/WIFI (You’re reading this because you have that)
- Know how to copy and paste. (Ctrl + C to copy & Ctrl + V to paste)
- A $5 Budget to buy a domain (Optional)
Now that we have all the requirements sorted out, let’s combine them together as we build a professional blog free.
Setting Up Your First Blog
Follow this steps keenly to get an amazing result.
Log on to blogger.com and click the CREATE YOUR BLOG button.
You’ll be asked to pick an existing Google account to create your blog and sign in.
Next you can customize your Blogger profile. This means you can use a different display name, etc., than your “regular” Google profile.
Once you have all this done, your dashboard should look like the picture below.
Now it’s time to get started. Click the CREATE NEW BLOG button and pick a name for your blog. You can enter the title and web address for your blog. By default, you’ll be given an address that ends in “.blogspot.com” and also, you have to pick a theme (just pick any random theme).
Perfect! You are doing well so far, we are in this together.
Boom! Your blog is active. But that’s not all. (Your design might be different from mine, depending on the theme you choose).
Step Three (Optional)
This is step is for you if you don’t like any of the themes offered by blogger and you are looking to take your own design to the next level or even make it look more professional.
- Go to GOOYABITEMPLATE.COM, look for the template you like and download it.
- Once you download it on your computer, Unzip the file.
- In the folder, navigate a file with .XML and open with notepad
- Once you open the .xml file with your note pad, highlight and copy the code. (DO NOT EDIT IT)
- Now go back to your blogger dashboard
- Click on Theme, then click on Edit Html
Once you click on Edit HTML, delete all the code in the box and paste the code you copied from your notepad. Then click on SAVE THEME.
BOOM! You have a new design. Play around with the design, read the pdf that came with the theme you downloaded and tweak your design to your taste. Here is what our blog look like after we added the new code.
Ugly you say! Now, lets add some blog post to spice it up.
Let’s add some new posts to our blog.
Click the New Post button in the upper left of the screen, give your post a title and write all you’d like in the main text entry screen below. You can add links, images, formatting, etc. Once you’re ready to share your writing with the world, click the Publish button in the upper right of the screen.
Congratulations! You just made your first blog post. Visit your website address to see how it looks.
Keep on blogging! Seriously, you’re a blogger now, people are waiting for your next post. There are plenty of other customization options for your blog that you can explore in the left-hand column of your blogger dashboard, including customizing your layout and seeing statistics about who’s reading your posts.
